Over the loudspeaker comes a garbled message “…this train divides at Chester. Customers for Bangor must travel in the front four coaches of the train”.

Had I been on the train, I was sure to have been startled by the mention of Bangalore. :-)

I think the explanation fell down around the "because it's a different train".

It could have gone something like this:

"At the moment, this train is being towed by another train. When we get to Chester, that train will go to Bangor and this train will go somewhere else, you want to be on the train that is going to Bangor"

"Why can't we walk through the train?"

"Imagine a car being towed by another car, are you able to get from one car to another while they are moving? How about when they stop at a motorway services?"

If your customer doesn't get it, maybe you don't have the right analogy.
